Montana Basement and Crawl Space Dehumidifier

"Dry" should mean that the basement feels dry, smells dry, and looks dry.

A waterproofing system doesn't ensure a dry basement. After a basement waterproofing system is installed, your Montana basement can be a damp environment. There are three primary reasons for this:

Basement and Crawl Space Dehumidifier in Bozeman, Livingston, and Clyde Park
  • Wicking – capillary action draws foundation moisture right through your basement walls. Porous concrete draws moisture to the surface like a sponge and then releases it into the basement air.
  • Exterior Air – outside air is drawn into the basement, bringing moisture in with it. As long as the outside air is cooler than the air in the basement, this is not an issue. However, hot summer air will carry a great deal of water into your home.
  • Water vapor also seeps through foundation walls and floors. By installing our ThermalDry Floor Matting and a basement wall system that includes a proper vapor barrier, vapor transmission will slow down greatly.

As hot, humid air enters from outside, condensation in the cool basement environment is almost assured. For each degree that air cools the Relative Humidity is raised by 2.2%. Air is drained into the home from the lower levels and allowed to escape at the upper ones. Ultimately, when it is hot and humid in the summer, regardless of whether it is rain or shine, your basement is likely at its wettest.

Example: It’s is 82 degrees outside with a Relative Humidity of 80%. Air is brought into the 67 degree basement. As the air cools, the Relative Humidity is raised by 33% (15 degrees cooler x 2.2%). As you’ve probably noticed, 82% plus 33% is over 100% – which means that the air is saturated with water! This moisture deposits condensation on cold basement floors, walls, your water tank, pipes, and all other cold things.

Even if condensation is avoided at times in the warm summer, basement humidity levels are still usually high. These high humidity levels foster mold growth and causing that damp basement stink that everyone hates. Dust mites also enjoy high Relative Humidity levels and begin to thrive. There are only two ways to eliminate the damp, heat the air or remove the humidity. Heating summertime air, however, would not only be uncomfortable (to say the least) but is also very expensive. The only real solution is to use the best basement dehumidification equipment to take water out of the air efficiently and effectively in Bozeman, Livingston, and Clyde Park, MT basements.
